The 'melting clock' is one of the most famous images in Dali's art, and it perfectly demonstrates the manner in which he links the rational and the irrational, making the transition from normality to dream world whilst remaining seemingly comprehensible (see the notes to Dali ' Le Colosse. The Colossus'). It is a motif which appears in a number of his most widely known paintings but which is very rarely seen in his graphic oeuvre.
