Postwick Grove, Norfolk and View in North Wales - a Pair.

A Pair of original softground etchings in black ink. c.1815/20. From the first issued edition. Issued in the large paper issue of the 'Liber Studiorum - A Series of Sketches and Studies by John Sell Cotman', published by H.Bohn 1838. No impressions are known dating from 1815/20.

Very fine impressions. On stiff pale cream wove paper. Excellent original condition. Large margins. Plates: 3 1/8 x 4 3/8ins and 3 x 4 3/8ins (80x113mm and 78x113mm).

This pair of small scale softground etchings is typical of the quality of softly modulated light and sensitivity to tone which chacacterizes Cotman's work on landscape themes in the softground medium.
