A rare poster with the main image in original colour lithography drawn by Dufy just before the War. No impressions appear to be known without the text added to publicise the exhibition of the ?Artistes Décorateurs? and the ?Salon de Lumière - The Salon of Light?, but the Mourlot records do note that a larger version of the composition was also drawn.
Dufy was one of the great colourists amongst the post-impressionist artists working in the first half of the century. He was also an enthusiastic exponent of the medium of lithography from the 1920?s onwards, yet he drew comparatively few of his prints in colour. This composition, with its rich palette of blues and reds, and the characteristically light-hearted theme, is a very attractive (and rarely seen) example of his work in the medium. |
