The unique quality in Dali?s drawing style in the period after the war is the way that he uses an almost frenetic rapidity of stroke, in whirling swirls or sweeps of shading, to create form and to instil into that form a sense of vibrant movement. This handling of line is clear both in his pen and pencil drawings but perhaps most effective in his etchings and drypoints where the incision and texture of the stroke adds a further dimension. This study in the Faust series typifies this handling, where the figure is contrasted against the exaggeration of the perspective.

This impression of L?Illusioniste is from the special separate edition of 145 impressions with watercolour overworking.
