Very fine strong drawing in excellent fresh condition. On cream wove ring-bound sketch-book paper. Excellent condition. Drawn virtually to full sheet size. Sheet: 12 x 9ins. Image overall: 10 5/8 x 7 5/8ins. (270x194mm)

An outstandingly strong and characteristic drawing from the immediate post-war period. At this date Cocteau was interested in the concept of form created by linking apparently random 'dot prints'. It was derived from the ideas of his pre-war involvement with Surrealism and the desire to express the random non-subjective imagery of the subconscious.
