Wrapped Trees. Project for the Avenue des Champs Elysées, Paris, No 2. 1990.

Original colour lithograph with relief collage of thread, staples, plastic and transparent polythene, together with collaged photograph and plan, retouched by hand with felt ‘marker-pens’ and gouache. 1969-90. Signed in chalk. Dated 1969-90. Inscribed H.C. and numbered XXI (21). Total edition of c.200. Drawn, printed and constructed at the Landfall press, Chicago, 1990.

Note: Issued to fund Christo’s project for wrapping the Pont Neuf, Paris 1987. The concept for the Champs Elysées Wrapped Trees dates from Christo’s proposal to wrap the trees at Christmas 1968 as part of the Paris Christmas celebrations. The project never came to fruition.

Extremely fine example with the collaged relief etc in exceptionally fine condition. On white Arches paper laid on museum board, as issued. Worked to the full sheet size, as issued. Sheet: 696x745 mm. 27 3/8 x 29 3/8ins.
