Concetto Spaziale. 1964

Original etching with embossing and pierced paper, together with overprinted cream ink tone. 1964. Numbered (21) in pencil from the edition of 50 (plus 11 proofs). Created at the 2RD studio, Milan 1964. Issued by 2RD and Galleria Marlborough Rome in the series ‘Sei Aquaforti Originali di Luciano Fontana’, 1964.

Note: This was one of the first group of ‘concetto spaziale’ compositions that Fontana made in a print medium. They are a landmark in the linking of conceptual and graphic art and won the first prize at the Tokyo Biennale in 1965. Fontana referred to such works as ‘incisione spaziale’.

Extremely fine impression with the embossing fresh and clean. On cream wove Fabriano paper. Excellent condition; the slightest trace of old framing at the sheet edges. The image uses the complete sheet format. Sheet: 635x500mm. 25 x 19 5/8ins.
