Le Cheval et la Parapluie. Horse with an Umbrella.

Watercolour and gouache over etching with tone bite in black ink. 1926/27. Signed in ink by Chagall. The only known impression of this etching with colouring by Chagall. One of 5 recorded proofs - this is the only one with colouring. Etching printed at the studio of Louis Fort before the first issue (of 50 impressions). Edition (black and white) issued for Cahiers Trimestriels, Paris 1930. Unique in this form.

Sold by Chagall's widow. Extremely fine impression with beautiful fresh colouring. On pale cream japan-type paper. Excellent condition; slight signs of outer edge paper toning from an old frame, inner margin and print surface excellent. Small (c40-60mm margins) as framed by Chagall. Plate: 208x163mm.8 1/8x6 1/2.
