Original etching in black ink. c.1875. Signed in ink and dedicated by Harpignies to his pupil the painter Raymond Verdun: à mon Elève Verdun, janvier 1908. Beautiful pre-issue proof with wiped tone of a very small landscape by Harpignies. Subsequently issued by the Beaux Arts, but printed from the plate after steel-facing. Exceptional as an early proof, before facing, and with a signature and dedication.

Outstandingly fine impression. On pale cream laid paper. Etching in excellent original condition; some touches of grey watercolour on the paper in the margin around the outside of the pen signature and inscription. Sheet: 218 x 304mm. 8 5/ x 12ins. Plate: 60 x 88mm.
