A superb example of Ernst's inspirational approach to etching. In creating the plate he used a reversal of the motif overprinted and inverted. Then whilst working on the edition for the album he made a group of unique experimental 'monotype' impressions, in which unique combinations of multiple colours were printed at a single 'pull'.
