Galanis was born and first studied in Greece. In about 1900 he moved to Paris and quickly joined the main circle of etchers exhibiting at the Salons. He became well-known to the public through his illustrations for magazines, but his real reputation was made through his bold creative handling of etching in highly personal landscapes and still-life compositions.
