Original softground etching in black with wash aquatint texture in green. 1964. Signed in pencil. Numbered (36) in pencil from the edition of 50. There was also a further edition of 250 un-numbered impressions and 20 proofs H.C. Etched and printed at the studio of Visat, Paris 1964. Issued in the album: 'Les Chiens ont Soifs'. Inspired by the text by Prévert. Issued by Weill, Paris 1964.

Ernst first experimented with forms created subconsciously through so-called 'automatic writing' in the late 1930's. He continued to use this type of subliminal evocation through random drawing into the later post-war period of his art. It was particularly effective in his later etchings.
