Inscribed in chalk as a proof ‘H.C. - hors commerce. Proof before the numbered edition of 197 impressions. (There were c.15 proof impressions and very few special proofs with added hand-colouring by Cocteau - as here). Commissioned by J.P.Loriot, 1959. Initially sold on behalf of a charity 'Bénéfice de la Médicine', Paris 1959. Excellent impression. On smooth black wove paper. Excellent condition. Full margins. Sheet: 500 x 325mm.
