Original Lithograph in black ink with text overprint in blue ink. 1897. Signed in the stone. State as issued as a cover sheet for the text of the play by Marsolleau and Byl. Printed by Verneau. Published by P.Stock, Paris, 1898. Very rare indeed in this issue.

Excellent impression. On smooth pale cream wove paper. In exceptionally fine condition for such a lithograph; with some slight traces of where originally folded round the text of the play. Printed to the full sheet size, as issued. Sheet overall: 7 1/2 x 10 1/2ins (190x268mm)

Hommage à Molière - Hors Les Lois - was commissioned by the actor André Antoine for the first performance of the play in November, 1897. The figures are an evocation of actors and theatre-goers in the interval, and typical of the humour and insight in Lautrec's drawing. Wittrock in his catalogue of Lautrec's prints describes impressions as 'very rare'. This example is in unusually fine condition.
