In the last years of the 1950?s Vasarely?s imagery took on the quality of purely analytical geometric form which was to be the hallmark of his art in the following period. However, he was still concentrating on a bold simplification in the arrangement of the shapes. The cool tones of the combination of grey, white and black in this image are a beautiful example of this rare period of his work.
