Original etching in black ink. 1872. Signed with the monogram in the plate. Also with the engraved name of the artist and the title. Published by the Etching Club for 'Etchings for the Art Union of London', 1872 (no 9).
Ref: Hartnoll - Pre-Raphaelite graphics no 30, the only issue.

Excellent rich and crisp impression, printed with light plate tone. On pale cream laid india (chine appliqué) with a stiff white wove backing sheet, as issued. Excellent condition. Sheet: 8 1/8 x 11ins. Plate: 5 3/4 x 8 1/4ins (144x184mm).

The theme of this etching has strong links with the style of the literature of the period, especially with Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, which had been published in 1865.
