Autumnal Sunset.

Mezzotint with touches of drypoint in black ink. 1830/32. Signed with the artist's mongram in the plate lower left. Extremely early and very rare working proof, with the first form of the image completed but before the revisions. Before the first issue for part V of 'English Landscape Scenery'.

Before the addition of Langham Tower on the horizon, with first treatment of the birds, but with highlights on trees. Absolutely superb trial proof impression with brilliant contrasts of light and tone. On stiff cream wove paper. Plate edges not yet cleaned; print and paper in generally
excellent original condition; slight traces of old mounting. Sheet: 8 3/8 x 11 3/8ins. Plate: 6 7/8 x 9 7/8ins 175x252mm
