Part of Warwick Castle from the S.E.

Original aquatint with etching in grey ink. 1775. With the signature in the plate: 'P.Sandby Fecit'. As first issued by J. Boydell in 1776 as No 4 in the set of 'Four Views of Warwick Castle'. With Boydell's publication line: Publish'd Jany 1776 by J.Boydell Cheapside.
Rare very early impression with the first version of the sky and inked in grey.

Extremely brilliant early impression in grey ink. On medium weight pale cream laid 18th century paper with coat of arms watermark. Generally excellent condition; slight rub on the left side where paper was slightly creased; the usual centre fold, now flattened, from where originally included in an album. Exceptionally good 1 inch margins. Sheet: 15 x 21ins. Plate: 12 7/8 x 18 7/8ins (325x480mm)
