Lithograph-cliché in red ink - drawn by brush in lithography; the edition printed from a cliché taken from a lithographic impression, as issued. 1885. Signed in the stone (as H. Impression with the address of Salabert for the edition sold in the USA. Very rare.
Ref: Delteil - Toulouse Lautrec no 10.

Excellent impression with strong ink colour. On poor quality cream wove paper, as issued. Exceptionally fine un-creased condition. Very slight paper time toning, as would be expected with such paper. Amongst the very first of Lautrec?s compositions for a music sheet was that for a song which was a great popular success for the famous music-hall performer Aristide Bruant. It was entitled ?A Saint-Lazare?. Drawn in 1885 Lautrec was still so little known at that date that he decided to sign it ?Treclau? rather than ?Lautrec? in case he needed to protect his reputation as a ?serious? artist. Impressions of this song sheet have now become extremely scarce, especially in complete form. The impression we have discovered is printed in red ink and is from the issue co-published for Editions Salabert in New York.
