La Cabina Misteriosa. The Mysterious Building.

Original linocut in yellow ink on pale blue paper (double sided). 1938. Signed in the block. (There was no issued signed edition only one or two proofs). From the only edition issued by San Lazzaro for 'XXe Sičcle', Paris 1938. The original edition was c.1500 impressions but at least half were lost/destroyed between 1939 and 1945.

Note: The reverse of the sheet has another impression of a very similar but not absolutely identical subject in red ink.

Excellent impression with very good unfaded colours. On pale blue toned medium weight wove paper. Generally excellent; slightest traces of the original binding for XXe Sičcle. Full sheet. Irregular 1/8 to 1/4inch margins. Image virtually to full sheet size. Sheet: 12 5/8 x 9 3/4ins.

Important early De Chirico print from the height of his Surrealist period. The repetition of the image (almost identical but not quite) on the reverse is intended to heighten the Surrealist effect.
