An extremely fine proof impression on a special green-tinted paper.

The quality of experimentation with which Miro approached his lithography at the end of the 1950?s and at the beginning of the 60?s is very effectively underlined by compositions such as ?Hommage à Rimbaud? above, a theme drawn by Miro in 1960 as part of a tribute to the great poet Rimbaud. From a spidery web of pen-drawn lines seem to emerge suggestions of figures. These are set against a surface which appears in constant visual movement from the contrasting areas of colour, some defined and solid others with the immaterial feeling which comes from sprayed ?spatters? of colour. Particularly effective is the use of the special handmade green tinted paper which Miro chose for this impression, and of which only a very few, perhaps five, examples exist.

This lithograph was drawn and printed at the Mourlot studio. The regular edition of 104 impressions was issued in the series ?Hommage à Rimbaud?. Apart from the edition there were a very small number of special proofs on individually prepared tinted papers, as above.

period 1949-52, no impressions appear to have been pencil signed.
