Composition 1923

Original woodcut in red ink. 1923. Signed in pencil. Also with the 'Atelier Survage' stamp. Hand-printed proof apart from the edition of 110 for the second 'Bauhaus Mappe' Weimar 1922. The edition, 10 on japan plus 100, (see below) was printed at the Bauhaus print studio (Bauhaus Verlag), however this proof was hand-printed probably in Paris, and remained at Survage's studio. Very rare in this form.
Note: The second 'Bauhaus Mappe' was intended to feature foreign artists; besides Survage, Marcoussis, Leger and Coubine were to make prints. For financial reasons the portfolio was never issued and the editions sold separately.

Extremely fine hand-printed proof impression. On soft hand- made light wove paper. very fine condition for a proof of this sort. Sheet: 355x332mm. Block: 304x235mm. 12 x 9 1/4ins
