At the end of his life Magritte was working on a series of small format colour etchings at the studio of Georges Visat in Paris. These prints were to be his only etched works using colour. As was his custom Magritte adapted and reassessed themes which he had first developed for earlier paintings and drawings, giving them a new slant with a visual wit which continues to stimulate the imagination and surprise our preconditioned notions of form and space.
We have just acquired this small group of these etchings in impressions which are exceptionally fresh in condition and colour having been kept in a portfolio since the 1960's |
