Original etching with softground, aquatint and drypoint in black ink. 1879/80. Impression from the first edition printed from the cancelled plate, with the score lines, 1910/15. One of a small number of special proofs on japan paper before the edition of 150 on textured wove. Issued by Ambroise Vollard (who bought the plate from Degas c.1910).
Note: Only 34 impressions are known before the score lines.

Excellent tonal impression of this issue. On pale cream japan paper. With the characteristic small margins at the sheet top and bottom. Sheet: 12 3/4 x 9 5/8ins. 323x244mm. Plate: 11 7/8 x 5ins. 305x127mm.
