Original lithograph in black ink. 1851. Exceptionally rare early impression. A proof (still with the marginal trial strokes)for the first edition of c.25 impressions printed by Bertauts in 1879 for Heyman (Millet's nephew). Before the normal edition.

Superb tonal impression on beige cream wove paper. Genarally excellent condition; short 15mm tear repaired in the upper right sheet margin edge well clear of the image. Good (? full) margins; sheet 13 1/2 x 10 7/8ins 342x278mm. Image (inc. margin strokes): 9 1/2 x 7 1/8ins. 240x180mm)
