Seated Figures - Three studies 1949 by Henry Moore, 1898-1986
Seated Figures - Three studies 1949

Original lithograph in black ink. 1949. Very rare proof for a lithograph which was never editioned or issued. Possibly some 10 proofs were pulled - the Cramer catalogue of Moore's graphic work records no edition just 'a few trial proofs'. Printed at the studio of Cowell, Ipswich 1949. Ref: Cramer - Henry Moore Graphic Work no 8
Very fine strong impression. On pale cream wove English Cartridge paper. The image trimmed by about 1 inch on the left side. Apart from this in generally excellent
condition; small weakness in the left sheet-edge strengthened. Image printed to full sheet size; sheet 17 7/8 x 10 5/8ins (455x270mm)

This lithograph, including sketches on some of the most important themes of Moore?s early work - the Mother and Child, the Girl Reading, the Family Group, The Woman Sewing in a Spindle-Back Chair - was never issued in an edition. Only some 10 proofs were pulled, none of which were signed. This studio proof lacks about 1? on the left edge of the composition (? in the printing?), without this significantly affecting the imagery.
